High on Type est un collectif d’artistes et de designers qui basent la pratique de l’écriture manuscrite comme fondement de leur pratique. L’écriture, la calligraphie, les formes des lettres et des systèmes typographiques, ainsi que les processus qui les entourent constituent un domaine d’intérêt commun. Cela se manifeste dans leurs projets collaboratifs, performances, résidences et expositions. En outre, le collectif organise des événements tels que des conférences, des festivals et des ateliers afin de cultiver et de maintenir une communauté autour de la typographie et de l’écriture. La formation actuelle de High on Type comprend Guido de Boer (NL), Julien Priez (FR), Hans Schuttenbeld (NL), Ivo Brouwer (NL) et Vincent de Boer (NL).

Alphabet Zine

L’alphabet est, naturellement, le fil directeur essentiel (peut-être le principal) de notre expression. Dans certaines conditions, il façonne nos voix, créant ainsi la possibilité d’ajouter du sens au-delà de la sémantique. Ses règles, comportements et conventions sont autant de matières qui méritent d’être explorées. Il arrive que le collectif se consacre pleinement à explorer et redéfinir les limites de l’alphabet latin. Pendant quelques jours, dans la galerie, High on Type créera autant d’alphabets que possible à travers une série de défis. Le résultat va au-delà d’une simple étude de la forme. Il est essentiel de s’interroger sur les outils dont nous disposons en tant qu’êtres humains pour créer du sens dans un monde qui existe en grande partie grâce à la communication. Célébrer l’alphabet, c’est célébrer les possibilités d’expression.

En amont du vernissage, invités par l’ANRT, High on Type fera une conférence à l’Ensad Nancy à 16h30. Entrée libre, dans la limite des places disponibles.

The act of writing, calligraphy, letterforms, and typographic systems, along with the surrounding processes, form a shared field of interest. This manifests in their collaborative projects, performances, residencies, and exhibitions. Under certain conditions, it shapes our voices, thereby creating the possibility of adding meaning on top of the semantic. These rules, behaviours, and agreements are all matters that need to be explored. From time to time, The collective devotes themselves to entirely to redefine boundaries of what a latin alphabet can be. In a short time in the gallery, High on Type will create as many alphabets as possible through a variety of challenges. The result is something that goes beyond a study of form. Questioning the tools we have as human beings to create meaning is essential in a world that exists largely by the virtue of communication. Celebrating the alphabet is a symbol of the possibilities of expression.
